Interview. Lisa de Ragdoll L.A, her cool chic lesson

This lean blonde dressed in leopard print is the epitome of cool in Los Angeles. Lisa Larson is a Swedish woman and it’s in the United States that she met success with her effortless but more than cool brand. Obvious timelessness, fluid materials, and pieces that seem to be straight out of a thrift shop in the suburbs of LA make Ragdoll’s identity. While she was in Paris, we talked about her inspirations, and she chooses exclusively for La Grande Boutique the key pieces of her fall-winter collection.

Lisa Larson, Scandinavia in the United States
“I moved to LA from Sweden where I worked for 10 years as a fashion buyer for a big department store chain both in Stockholm as well as Hong Kong. When I arrived in Los Angeles I worked as a stylist and then I stayed home for two years to take care of my children which is when I had the idea to start Ragdoll – a line inspired by pieces that I love to wear – time flew and now that’s already over 6 years ago.”

Ragdoll, a desire for rock and comfort
“In Los Angeles, everyone is dressed in loungewear and wants a casual look. I didn’t want to launch the loungewear brand of a European who moves to Los Angeles, but rather something rock and roll and chic at the same time. I used to steal my husband’s sweat pants, and I told myself I should make them for women because this is what I wear, along with vintage washed t-shirts in very neutral colors. That’s how it all started. “

A black t-shirt, again and again
“My closet is essentially composed of black t-shirts, I can only recommend them. Probably four days out of the week I’m wearing a black t-shirt and even when I go out, either I’m in a very plain black t-shirt or I like blouses, with denim and nice heels. I don’t wear dresses too much.”

Vintage inspired t-shirts
“They are inspired by vintage t-shirts. It all started with the fact that I had one that I loved more than anything, and I thought: “But what will I do if I lose it? I absolutely have to design the same one! ” Mine came from a flea market and I worked hard to reproduce this material that I love with the right effect, it took the right number of washes to give it this voluntarily relaxed aspect. So you can have the same look and fit over and over again. These t-shirts are absolutely perfect, they go with everything, like cotton pants or sweatshirts for exemple, in neutral colors. “

Delicate materials
“We developed the collection and started producing new materials throughout the next seasons. Mesh, velvet and embroidery have always been at the heart of my brand, I love the delicacy of a lace with the comfort of a jersey piece. “

The leopard print
“There have always been animal prints in my collection, leopard and zebra in black and white. It’s really part of my DNA. I like the idea of mixing basic and essential pieces with animal prints. These are the designs that work the best at Ragdoll LA. The leopard print is for me a super cool way to turn a basic into a trendy piece that remains very easy to wear. »

Leggings!
“Leggings are very popular in LA, they are cotton and elastane, so ultra comfortable. These are not leggings to work out in, but to lounge, just feel good in. They look great styled with a bodysuit for example, or just a t-shirt. Flared leggings are our new shape of the season and they look so cool with an oversized sweater and a simple flat shoe. “

A cool sweatshirt
“Ragdoll LA is really a Californian brand because I’m inspired by the style of people from LA who are very laid-back. In Europe people are more chic and dressed up while in Los Angeles, even if you wear a sophisticated skirt, you put it with a big sweatshirt to break the look. I’ve always wanted to design this kind of magical clothes that allow you to wear very chic pieces, that make everything cool, that are trendy but also timeless. It’s the kind of clothes you are sure to keep for a very long time. “
