Mikuta, does this mean something to you? It’s the minimalist rock brand that’s on the rise! Always on the lookout for the latest trendy brands, La Grande Boutique has spotted this gem and has already included it in its fashion selections! We met its creator Jacqueline, here is her exclusive interview!
I was born in Sweden, but I moved to Mallorca with my family when I was 9, where I grew up surrounded by fashion since my mother is a stylist. I’ve always been interested in fashion photography, styling, and beauty in general from a young age. My biggest dream was to become a fashion photographer.
So, I went to Stockholm to study media, photography, and graphic design, then to Barcelona to study advertising and art direction, and I also took a makeup course in London. After that, I started working as a stylist and makeup artist on shoots in Spain, and I did fashion photography on the side for modeling agencies and a few small jobs. Eventually, I moved to Berlin, where I met Klemens, my boyfriend. We started doing fashion shoots for online magazines, then decided to try our hand at the influencer world! Everything went really well, and we spent 6 years traveling the world, photographing for our Instagram and blog, and working with many brands. Interest in my jewelry and looks grew, and we realized there might be potential to create our own brand, which is exactly what we did! We started with a small jewelry line in 2017 and expanded into clothing in 2019. It’s now been four years since we launched our own fashion brand!
The look is very laid-back, simple, and comfortable, with a touch of rock’n’roll! It’s minimalistic but inspired by the grungy Berlin style mixed with the Mediterranean beach lifestyle. The style always changes with the seasons. Autumn/winter is darker and more rock, while spring/summer is lighter and more bohemian, but always keeping that rock’n’roll vibe.
Yes, you will always find denim, blacks, and faded grays in our collections! We always add a bit of color each season, but black and white in various washes are our main identity. We also add silver jewelry and a little sparkle!
Yes, I’m always looking for pieces that are missing from my wardrobe, haha! That’s how we started, and I think it’s very important to stay authentic and true to my style so that the brand doesn’t lose its identity. Fortunately, it works, and people love it. We design for modern women who are looking for cool basics without being boring—those who want simple-to-wear pieces that still maintain that rock’n’roll edge without overdoing it. It’s also really important for the pieces to be timeless, comfortable, and of course, high-quality, so you can wear them for years.
Since Klemens and I started our career together, we’ve experienced everything and lived through it together, combining our skills. We’re both creative, share the same ideas and vision, and always create the styles and photography hand in hand. Luckily, we never get tired of working together—we inspire and push each other to make the brand of our dreams a reality.
We love what we do, and it never really feels like work because we live what we do. Creating content and telling stories through beautiful clothes is our passion. But of course, as the brand grows, it becomes more and more important, which is normal for anyone building a business. Our current challenge is building a team. That doesn’t mean we’ll stop being involved—it just gives us more time to be creative and stay inspired!
I’m very inspired by travel, calm and relaxed lifestyles, earthy textures, and colors. Of course, I also draw inspiration online and from magazines, but that can sometimes be a bit stressful, so I mainly find inspiration in real-life people with different lifestyles, in all sorts of places.
I love Zadig & Voltaire, Anine Bing, and Isabel Marant—I find them all very inspiring. My biggest inspiration has always been my mother. She’s a hardworking woman with big dreams, curious, always looking for new ideas, and keeping up with the latest trends while staying true to herself, with a style that’s both personal and fashionable.
My dream is, of course, to continue succeeding with MIKUTA, to have a happy and healthy team and business, and to inspire people all over the world.
Personally, my dream is to have a happy life with my family in a sunny place, and maybe one day open a bed & breakfast by the coast, with a little bar serving Majorcan pa amb oli!
