The effortless style of a Scandinavian girl twisted with Californian rock vibes ? This is only one person, Anine Bing! The perfect boots, the vintage-inspired t-shirts, the silk caracos and the flattering jeans are the uniform she draws for her, and therefore for all the women who dreamed of it. This determined and charming real dynamo lives in Los Angeles and made her life a dream. Passionate, she decided that her dreams would become reality. If the Dane is today the fashionable girl that everyone wants to looks like and know, it is only on Instagram that she communicates, via her looks or when she shows her offices. She never gives an interview, and yet La Grande Boutique interviewed her exclusively. Anine Bing talks about her life in Los Angeles, her style, her ambitions, her passion for rock, or her wildest dreams. She tells us everything!
Anine Bing. I’ve been cutting up pieces and sewing things together since I was younger. I didn’t have a ton of money growing up so if I wanted a certain style of denim or something I had to make it myself. I love that I had pieces no one else had because I could put my own touch on them. I wanted to be a jewelry designer for a long time because I loved playing with my grandmother’s vintage jewelry so much, so having my own line seemed like a natural step.
Anine Bing. It was at a point in my life where I was really looking for those perfect classic pieces like that essential white tee or the coolest leather jacket and I wasn’t seeing the exact thing I wanted out in the market. There was so much going on in fashion but I felt like the basics all my friends and followers wanted weren’t out there so I wanted to create those things I would wear every day.
Anine Bing. It was so long along but I feel so lucky for that time because I got to travel and see the fashion industry from a different perspective. I traveled a lot to Los Angeles during that time and was one of the main reasons I fell in love with the city and why I knew we had to launch our brand here.
Anine Bing. I have always loved Los Angeles because it’s such a creative place, there’s inspiration everywhere. It also has this amazing energy about it. My style is very much a mix of that vintage American style LA does so well and the simple, classic style that comes from my Danish roots. I love that Scandanavian simplicity but infused with a rocker spirit that’s very American.
Anine Bing. I started this brand because I wanted to create the pieces I was missing from my closet. I wear my brand every day and design around my style and uniform. The ANINE BING woman is effortless, cool, and a powerhouse. She doesn’t have time to spend an hour picking out what she wants to wear but still always looks put together no matter what she’s up to that day. The women that wear our brand are doing it all and it’s amazing to watch them take these styles from day to night and from picking up their kids at school to meetings and drinks.
Anine Bing. I wear a version of the same look almost every day. My uniform is usually a vintage-inspired graphic tee, a really good pair of denim—I like a high-waisted skinny fit or straight leg, and a leather jacket or a blazer. I’ll go for a blazer when I want it to feel more sophisticated and a leather jacket when I want a little edge. Oh and boots, I wear boots every single day, they make every look rock ‘n’ roll.
Anine Bing. I love so many places in Europe but probably London or Paris. We have stores in both places and I love how unique the style and energy of each city is. I have so many amazing memories in London and Paris, big memories for the company and my career so they will always hold a special place in my heart.
Anine Bing. I love the lifestyle of Los Angeles. It’s always sunny and beautiful here. I love that we are close to the beach but also can take a weekend trip to the desert in a few hours. The style is great here too, I love those americana roots and am so inspired by all the history and rock ‘n’ roll past that comes from the US.
Anine Bing. Running a company and having two kids means that no day is ever the same. I start my day pretty early, usually around 6 am. I usually check my phone and emails first thing to see if any urgent orders or anything came in from our European customers overnight and then I go over my schedule for the day to figure out if I need to be in the office or visiting one of our store locations or if I’m on set for a shoot.
Anine Bing. This is something I have really had to focus on over the past few years. With everything going on with the business and my family it can be hard to remember or even take the time to do something that’s just for me so now, I try to do something small each day even if it’s just a 10 minute face mask or meditation.
Anine Bing. I designed our Charlie Boots 7 years ago when we started the company and they are still my favorite pair of boots. I wear them constantly, and to me, they are still that perfect rock ‘n’ roll boot that makes every outfit look cool. I have so many boots, I wear boots with everything and I test all the new boots before they come out so I have a lot stacked in my closet right now.
Anine Bing. I always loved going to flea markets when I was younger and would get so inspired by the old records and band tees you could get there. I also used to have a band, so my love for music has always been a big part of my creativity and infused into everything I do. There’s something so effortless about the way musicians dress. Mick Jagger could rock a power suit better than anyone and that kind of energy is what I want all of our pieces to embody, so when someone puts on a blazer they feel confident and ready to take on anything.
Anine Bing. I love rock ‘n’ roll and listen to it constantly for inspiration when we are designing every collection. The Cranberries are my favorite band of all time and I listen to them every morning while I get ready but we also love the classics in our office like The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who.
Anine Bing. My go-to for hot days is something airy and breathable like a loose dress or shorts with a silk tank and boots, then I’ll throw a leather jacket or open dress over top for the night.
Anine Bing. I almost never wear heels, even when I get dressed up I’ll wear a heeled boot. My days are crazy so I have to be comfortable and able to run from one thing to the next. I also feel like boots add just the right amount of edge to any look, so I love to mix them with more feminine dresses for that perfect balance.
Anine Bing. I love prints that feel classic and timeless even though they make a statement. I tend to gravitate toward versions of leopard print or snakeskin, things that can double as a neutral even though they are patterned. There’s nothing more timeless than a good leopard print.
Anine Bing. Not dressing for yourself. I think it’s so important to wear things you feel confident in. I learned it wasn’t worth it to wear something that was trendy but made me feel uncomfortable, I look best when I feel confident and I think you can tell the difference when someone doesn’t feel good in what they’re wearing.
Anine Bing. I just started getting back into working out, so I’m trying a bunch of different things to see what I like best and what works with my schedule. I love yoga and I have also have been trying pilates lately which I’m really into.
Anine Bing. I’m really excited for what’s next at ANINE BING and know that we want to keep growing our existing Womens + Kids businesses. We don’t have plans for any additional lines right now, but you never know!
Anine Bing. We started this brand 7 years ago and it’s hard to believe all that’s happened in that short amount of time. I hope the next 10 years are filled with more growth for the company and for myself. I want this brand to take over the world.
