We keep saying that fashion is a constant renewal, and the Indie Sleaze trend is a great example! This trend, a hit in the 2000s, is back in force this season! What was it? A look halfway between bohemian and trashy, a revisited nineties that’s back in the spotlight this season, allowing us to update our wardrobes and recycle our favorite pieces. Here’s a look at the hottest trend of the moment and the must-have pieces you absolutely must have.
Take a trip back to that Instagram-free era of the 2000s. Kate Moss is the undisputed queen of the fashion world; influencers don’t exist, they’re called socialites. We text on Nokia 3310s, we wear lip gloss, and rock bands are the stuff of dreams. When it comes to looks, the current trend is called Indie Sleaze. A mix of scruffy rock, runny makeup, and deliberately messy hair. In short, a silhouette that’s the polar opposite of Britney Spears, which was very fashionable at the time, worn by Kate Moss and a wave of Brit-girls like Pixie Geldof, Alexa Chung, and Alice Dellal. A sharp look that looks like it was hastily thrown on androgynous girls with a passion for the 70s and 80s, somewhere between 70s decadence and new-age punk. So, what does it look like in 2025?
For us, of course! While Kate Moss is the leader of the stylistic movement, everyone can appropriate this trend in their own way, depending on their standards, age, and initial style. Are you more preppy like Alexa Chung? Perhaps you’ll avoid tights. Is your fashion idol Sienna Miller? Then you’ll experience the Indie Sleaze trend in a more bohemian way with seventies inspirations, like the British actress, etc. While it may seem ultra-edited, the trend is actually super easy to integrate into your everyday wardrobe, in small touches or with a strong piece, like a leather jacket, a leopard coat, or chunky boots. Little by little, the rock revival spirit will take over your mood and your desires, and that’s how, day after day, you’ll become a true muse for the return of indie sleaze. Messy hair AND tights included. Have you even seen the latest Isabel Marant fashion show for next winter? If that’s not Indie Sleaze heading our way, it certainly looks like it!
With a few well-chosen pieces, here’s how to bring a little (or a lot) of indie sleaze into your life!
